          Comments about this product:

If you're an avid fan of westerns, you'll buy this collection for all four selections. If you're like myself only interested in the great adult westerns (I love, however, the old Tim Holt, Roy Rogers, Hopalong, etc. B shoot-'em-ups), you'll overlook three of these so-so, entertaining but uninspired movies, and buy the collection for one of the all-time great movies, Ride the High Country. (We're not just talking westerns here--ALL-TIME GREAT OF ANY GENRE.) This '60s film is Peckinpah at his very best; Randolph Scott at his best; Joel McCrea at his best; Edward Buchanan at his best. Simply magnificent! And if you haven't seen it before, wait 'til you see the cinematography. The bigger the screen you have, the more stupendous the scenery. I could go on and on, but just buy Ride the High Country. You owe yourself the experience. I've given the collection 5 stars for this one film alone.

Tom Blackburn was the screen writer. Ater selling hundreds of stories to western magazines in the 1930s through the 1940s he also sold western novels. He wrote for radio, such as Tails of the Texas Rangers and the TV pilot for the same show. Other stories were sold to Hollywood including Cattle Queen of Montana. He wound up his screen writing career at Walt Disney Studio where he wrote the screen plays for Westward Ho! The Wagons, the Davie Crockett TV series, the Andy Burnett TV series, the Johnny Tremain TV series, and most of the song lyrics for those shows including the Ballad of Davy Crockett. Tom was my father.
