"The Ballad of Little Jo" (1993) is the gender-bending, true-life sagebrusher about Josephine Monaghan (Suzy Amis), an outcast of a wealthy Eastern family, who searches for a new life out West. After facing several hardships, she purchases men's clothing and takes residence in a mining town, posing as a man.
