Description
Fred Astaire sails across the pond to meet damsel in distress Joan Fontaine and delightful (if unlikely) dance partners George Burns and Gracie Allen in a musical co-scripted by master wit P.G. Wodehouse and directed by George Stevens (Swing Time). The helium-light story concerns servants running a betting pool on the marriage prospects of a fetching aristocrat (guess who wins her hand). The elegant George and Ira Gershwin score includes two standards forever associated with Astaire, A Foggy Day and Nice Work If You Can Get It, plus one of Hollywood’s cleverest song-and-dances: the Academy Award®-winning* Fun House number, which sends Astaire, Burns and Allen cavorting among chutes, mirrors, moving floors and rolling barrels.

**Please be aware that this is a manufactured on demand disc that was created using a DVD-R disc. It should play in all standard DVD players.

Comments about this product:

The movie was what I wanted for a Christmas gift.
The audio is so poor on the dvd that I have to stand a foot away from my TV and even then, it is not loud. I want a replacement with good sound. Another DVD I purchased from TCM has the very good sound that this movie needs. Can I exchange my DVD for a good one? J. Saul

    Comments about this product:

Fred Astaire is the titular star, but let's
face it---Gracie Allen steals the show with
humor, singing and dancing! Quite a revelation for anyone who knows her only as husband George
    Burns' foil.

Excellent movie except one silly scene goes on too long. I can fast forward though.

            Comments about this product:

A must have Astaire film, with great Gershwin songs performed by experts. Very underrated when it was released supposedly because of Rogers absence, the songs are all now classics.
Silly meandering story, but who cares with these great performances. Joan Fontaine is very good, and her limited dance movements are extremely graceful(despite Arlene Croce's nitpicking critique). Also has probably the best performances (and dancing!) from Burns and Allen who are delightful. Outstanding remastering and refurbishment--looks sharp and sounds is greatly improved--better than any previous releases or showings. Great job!
