Based on Charles Dickens' 1857 classic story, MGM's "A Tale of Two Cities" (1935) stars Ronald Colman, as the lawyer Sydney Carton, and Donald Woods, as the affluent Charles Dornay. A love story set during the French Revolution, Carton (Colman) is sought to defend Dornay (Woods) from espionage. Though Dornay is engaged to the beloved Lucie Manette (Elizabeth Allan), Carton must save Dornay from the guillotine while fighting his own love for Lucie. Nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Picture.
