Elia Kazan, director of "On the Waterfront" and other undisputed classics, takes a page from his own family history with the Oscar-winner "America, America" (1994). Loosely based on the life of his own uncle, Kazan wrote and directed this epic-length tale of a young Greek immigrant, played by Stathis Giallelis, and his odyssey from Constantinople to New York harbor. Kazan earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, with "America, America" winning the Oscar for Best Art direction.
