Love, passion and danger fuel this moving drama, produced by acclaimed filmmaker Terrence Malick. Damien Nguyen stars as a young man who flees Vietnam for America in search of his father, an ex-G.I., after his mother's health fails. A mixed-race child, his journey is filled with various hardships, including racism, poverty and near enslavement. Fleeing the country, Nguyen is accompanied first by his half-brother and is later joined by Bai Ling, as a beautiful Chinese refugee. The trio's odyssey takes themon a dangerously small boat, piloted by a cynical Tim Roth, to New York and finally on to Texas and Nguyen's father, played by Nick Nolte.
