This documentary (1982) traces obsessed director Werner Herzog's journey as he attempts to film 1982's "Fitzcarraldo," his most ambitious feature film. Over the course of nearly five years, every phase of the perilous production was captured as Herzog attempted - insisted - on filming the most daunting scenes without models or special effects. The result is a stunning document of Herzog's persistence, passion and unrealistic expectations in the name of art.
