The triple feature DVD "Classic British Thrillers" (2008) features early films from English directors who later became stars of the Golden Era of British Cinema. Michael Powell directed "The Phantom Light" (1935), a murder mystery starring Binnie Hale and Gordon Harker as two bickering detectives on the case, and "Red Ensign" (1934), a fact-based story of corruption in the world of British shipping, starring Leslie Banks. Lawrence Huntingon directed James Mason (best known for playing Humbert Humbert in the 1962 film "Lolita") as a neurosurgeon-turned-sleuth out for revenge in "The Upturned Glass" (1947).
