Michael Mann, the master filmmaker of "Heat" and "The Insider" and creator of 1980s TV sensation"Miami Vice" creates an intense action-packed valentine to the beauty of Los Angeles at night in "Collateral" (2004). Jaime Foxx is an unlucky cab driver whogives a 12-hour ride to cold-blooded killer Tom Cruise. Not only is he in danger of being killed, this assassin is so smooth that by midnight, the police mistakenly believe Foxx is to blame for all the murders Cruise is committing. Stuart Beattie wrote the superbly structured script. This is one of Mann's most entertaining and atmospheric films.
