Description
Not every great Western needs to involve a sheriff fighting for justice. In this unorthodox tale, Frank Harris (Jack Lemmon) is a mild-mannered hotel clerk who dreams of a cowboy adventure. He offers to pay off cattle driver Tom's (Glenn Ford) debt if he can saddle up and join the trail. Frank has an ulterior motive: he wants to get to Guadalupe to reunite with his heart's desire Maria (Anna Kashfi). Once on the trail, Frank is smacked with the realities of the cowboy's life through plenty of adventure, brawling and camaraderie.

    Comments about this product:

This is a western, but not the usual fare. Glenn Ford is trail boss. Jack Lemmon is a hotel desk clerk. Jack bought into the business when Glenn had gambled away all his money.

Jack holds Glenn to his word, he goes on the trail. Jack wants to see his Mexican sweetheart. Jack is a tenderfoot; he needs to learn to ride a horse, rope, and handle guns, plus handle cattle. Glenn doesn't want Jack along, so he is extra tough.

They arrive in Guadalupe, his sweetheart is married. Tough luck, lover-boy. Now, they have lots of cattle to drive north to sell in Chicago. Jack toughens up to be a great drover.

Jack has earned Glenn's respect. Watch all the scenes from beginning to end of the trail. Then, the train ride. See the interaction between the two stars.

      Comments about this product:

I thought this was an excellent western story with a slight twist. I also thought that Glenn Ford and Jack Lemmon were wonderful together - two very good actors doing what they do best.
