Steve Martin is brilliant in this inspired parody of the film noir genre that seamlessly incorporates clips of famous noir legends into a hilariously hard-boiled who-done-it. Martin plays a private eye hired to track down the killer of a renowned scientist and cheese maker by the man's alluring daughter, Rachel Ward. As Martin untangles the web of intrigue surrounding the murder, the action gets weirder, and funnier, as Martin relies on the help of such 1940s icons as Barbara Stanwyck, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Fred MacMurray, Ingrid Bergman and Fred MacMurray.
