Description
The era of the big bands, grand ballrooms and casino nightlife comes alive in The Eddy Duchin Story, a musical biography of the talented pianist and bandleader who set New York society on its ear in the 1930s and 1940s. Tyrone Power portrays a determined Duchin, who arrives in Manhattan dreaming only of a "red Stutz bearcat and a bankroll as big as the Ritz." With the first note he plays, Duchin steals heart of society girl Marjorie Oelrichs (Kim Novak), who teaches Duchin that love, not money, brings happiness. But as soon as that happiness is purchased, a tragedy happens, leaving Duchin alone with a new born son and now will to live. George Sidney directs this moving story about a man who discovers too late the real wonder of life. An emotionally rare motion picture scored to the unforgettable music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Frederic Chopin, and Oscar Hammerstein.

    Comments about this product:

I loved the great music throughout this excellent biography of pianist Eddy Duchin, an early to mid-20th century society bandleader. Shot mostly in New York, makes lovely use of Central Park and (the former) Carnegie Mansion locales on upper Fifth Avenue. Handsome, romantic Tyrone Power gives a fine performance as Duchin and you will swear that it's him playing piano. Kim Novak is cool and blond as the high society socialite who falls in love with Duchin and bears him a son. Sadly touching dramatization of Duchin's story. Hankies will be wet with tears by the closing frame.

          Comments about this product:

This was the original love story before Ryan O'Neil and Allie McGraw came on the scene. Tyrone Power is so handsome, sexy, and sensitive, you'll fall in love all over, again, no matter what age you are. And Kim Novack is so soft and feminine, you'll get lost in her voice. The music is an equal treat. Carmen Cavillaro's rendition of Eddy Duchin is fabulous. What a wonderful classic. Don't miss it.
