Description
The clever sci-fi thriller "Time After Time" (1979) ingeniously suggests that H.G. Wells, author of "The Time Machine," actually invented a device that travels through time, and uses it to pursue Jack the Ripper from Victorian London to contemporary San Francisco. Malcolm McDowell wittily portrays Wells as a prim fish out of water, David Warner gives a sinister turn as one of history's most notorious serial killers and Mary Steenbergen shines as a feisty feminist charmed by McDowell's gallantry. The directorial and screenwriting debut of Nicholas Meyer will win over audiences of all time periods.

                  Comments about this product:

A rather dashing thirty-something Malcolm McDowell is H.G. Wells, who, in this movie, actually invents a time machine rather than just writing about one. David Warner, who plays villains so well, is superb as the time traveling Jack the Ripper...playing him as a cool, sophisticated psychopath. Mary Steenbergen is perfectly cast as Amy Robbins, a foreign exchange banker who falls for H. G. Wells onscreen and in real life married Malcolm McDowell a year later. Often overlooked, "Time After Time" is one of my favorite time travel movies. The time travel effects are cheesy and mercifully few, but the film puts story and character way above visual effects, making for a good trade off. David Warner plays Jack as a surgeon and interestedly, Scotland Yard has always suspected that Jack the Ripper might have been a surgeon. Also amusing is the fact that in real life, H.G. Wells did marry an Amy Robbins who was an outspoken feminist, as Mary Steenbergen plays her. Bottom line, "Time After Time" is a well written and acted time travel adventure, and comes highly recommended

                  Comments about this product:

I never buy a movie unless I have seen it numerous times and/or it gets harder for me to see on TV. Such is the case in this movie. I had seen it about 5 times but the memory of the actors and the movie stuck in my mind so vividly that I decided that I had to buy the movie.

                    Comments about this product:

Years ago worked at a newspaper and while we were looking for fillers, there was a review for this movie that we used to fill a space in the paper. I always liked the 1960s movie "The Time Machine" and this made me like the time travel premise of this movie and add the Jack the Ripper aspect...I wanted to see it. So as soon as it made it to my area, I made my cousin go see it with me. We loved it, and this was my first introduction to the winsome Mary Steenbergen. It's a fun movie to watch and I would recommend it.
