In an isolated desert outpost in East Africa, the district commissioner (Bruce Cabot) and a British army officer (George Sanders) try to combat a plot by the Nazis to arm the hostile local tribesmen with weapons. When a mysterious woman named Zia (Gene Tierney) arrives at the fort with her caravan of traders, the situation grows more deadly. Is she an undercover arms dealer working for the German army, or is she innocent of their suspicions? A rarely seen action adventure set against the backdrop of World War II, this film features early screen appearances by Dorothy Dandridge and Woody Strode, and received three Academy Award® nominations for Best Music (Miklos Rozsa), Best Cinematography (Charles Lang) and Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration (Alexander Golitzen, Richard Irvine). Directed by Henry Hathaway (1947's Kiss of Death, 1969's True Grit).
