Barry Levinson orders up some laughs in "Diner" (1982), the directorial debut for which he penned an Oscar-nominated script. Featuring a menu of stars chosen from hundreds of hopefuls, Steve Guttenberg, Daniel Stern, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Timothy Daly, Paul Reiser and then-newcomer Ellen Barkin play pals who frequent an all-night diner in Baltimore in 1959, in this endearing look at the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
