A London-based journalist (John Simm) on the downside of his career returns to his Lancashire hometown only to find that his father (Jim Broadbent) has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While the writer's younger sister (Olivia Colman) tends to their father's needs, he tries to make peace with his own fuzzy memories of why he had left home for so many years─a struggle he must manage without help from his afflicted parent.
