Would he lie to you? In the final project made during his lifetime, Orson Welles explores the nature of art, celebrity, and reality itself in "F for Fake" (1974). Defying categorization, this bizarre tongue-in-cheek documentary explores the life of art forger Elmyr de Hory, here ironically interviewed by author Clifford Irving, a forger in his own right following his fabricated biography of Howard Hughes. Welles uses the footage as a springboard for commentary on the relationship between art and lying, while citing examples from his own career to underscore how all filmmaking is a fiction.
