Alan Parker's "Fame" (1980) invites its audience to take a peek at teenagers at a posh New York City High School for the Performing Arts, trying desperately to break into Hollywood. Through the episodes, we meet Coco (Irena Cara), Doris (Maureen Teefy), an exuberantly gay Montgomery (Paul McCrane), and a soul-searching Bruno (Lee Curreri). Despite dealing with all of the problems that force a teenager's back to the wall - insecurity, relationship problems, and identity crises - these teens stick together ultimately to lift each other up, learning that fame is not the deepest or most important thing out there, but that friendship and loving yourself gets you through the times when nobody else knows your name.
