"Film Noir Classic Collection, Vol. 4" (2007) takes a detour into the underworld of femme fatales, fall guys and deep, dark shadows with ten crime thrillers from the post WWII era. In "Act of Vengeance" (1948) Robert Ryan's POW camp survivor suspects Van Heflin's World War II hero of being a collaborator. "The Great Escape" director John Sturges helms "Mystery Street" (1950), a Boston-based police whodunit. Sterling Hayden plays an L.A. cop who suspects Gene Nelson's ex-con will return to his criminal ways in "Crime Wave" (1954). "Decoy" (1946) depicts Jean Gillie as a tough moll who uses chemicals to revive her robber boyfriend after he gets the gas chamber. Edward G. Robinson plays a district attorney who turns to defending hoodlums in "Illegal" (1995). "Out of the Past" stars Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer reunite to pursue a stick-up man to Mexico in "The Big Steal" (1949). Farley Granger and Cathy O'Donnell play lovers on the run in "They Live by Night" (1949). Granger and O'Donnell reunite as a married couple who become drawn into criminal endeavors in director Anthony Mann's "Side Street" (1950). "Where Danger Lives" (1950) casts Robert Mitchum as a fugitive on the run from a murder he may not have committed. Finally, Richard Basehart schemes to kill his wife's lover in "Tension" (1949).
