Before House, Hugh Laurie honed his doctor-playing skills in this hit British comedy. Paul Slippery, a 44-year-old doctor and family man, wakes up one morning to discover that he can hear other peoples thoughts. Worse yet, everybody from his fiftysomething patients to his three teenage sons seem to have sex lives way more interesting than his. His wife has resumed her career, and he suspects she may be having an affairand may be a lesbian. Although the native accent of Fortysomethings star may sound unfamiliar to American ears, Lauries edgy, high-energy characterization will come as no surprise.
