    Comments about this product:

This film is important as an artistic product of the agonizing tragedy of war. Unfortunately, the version released for western audiences removed many of the metaphoric references to Japan's dark days between 1935 and 1944 and the consequences of totalitarian militarism and resultant suffering of civilian populations during the Pacific War. This film was made but a decade after the nuclear holocaust that occurred at Hiroshima and Nagasaki and reflects the trauma that those events produced on the psyche of the people of Japan.

      Comments about this product:

The original "Godzilla" is THE monster film for all time and you must have the original Japanese version to fully appreciate this engrossing and terrifying story. While this version is good, you might check out the Japanese Blu Ray from CD Japan for unbeatable quality. Be warned, there are no subtitles in that version. It is ALL Japanese. The black/white photography and exceptional lighting in this film sets it apart from the many who have tried to copy it... none successfully. The characters are developed and believable. There is nothing comic here. It's a serious, sombre, sad film - probably never to be equalled.
