Herb Ross made his directorial debut with this charming musical, "Goodbye Mr. Chips" (1969), bursting onto the screen from James Hilton's timeless tale. Peter O'Toole gives an Oscar-nominated performance as he leads a cast including pop star Petula Clark, Michael Redgrave and Sian Phillips in this melodic 1969 update of the 1939 original film, about a proper schoolmaster whose world changes forever when he falls in love with a music-hall girl, and whose goodness to his students becomes a legacy against the background of World War II.
