"Hangman's Knot" (1952) presents Randolph Scott as Major Matt Stewart, who commands a raiding party of Confederate cavalry at the end of the Civil War. Under an impression of a continuing war, the party robs a Yankee shipment but then to their surprise, they come to know that the war has been over for a month. Beautifully directed by Roy Huggins, and humorously packed with fascination, the story tells about the unfortunate subsequent complications faced by the party under criminal prosecution.
