The incredibly multi-talented Danny Kaye stars as Hans Christian Andersen, a young cobbler with a special gift for storytelling. Nominated for six Academy Awards, this wonderful musical will enchant both young and old.
I don't own this movie (yet), but I will before I leave the site tonight. Hans Christian Anderson was one of my very favourite movies when I was much younger than I am now. When the movie was long gone from the movie theatres my parents were able to rent it through a movie club that they were members of and so, in that way I got to see it once again later on in my life. Watching it again took me back in time when it first came out. Of what I can remember the story was great and Danny Kaye was even better. My parents had several records of his and I can remember listening to them at home and joining in when I knew the words. I don't beleive another actor could've done a better job at playing Hans Christian Anderson than Danny Kaye, it was like the character was meant for him and I beleive he didn't disappoint the audience. His singing was fantastic and if you buy this movie I honestly think you won't be disappointed. When Hans would tell a story the children would come from everywhere just to sit and listen and no one could tell a story better than Hans Christian Anderson. When I receive the movie and view it for the first time in many years I will send in a more up to date report but I believe that I'm fairly accurate in what I just said. Danny Kaye was and still is a favourite of mine. I will say this in closing, as I have been typing this report some of the songs from the movie are dancing in my mind and now I'm getting excited to see it again.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
