      Comments about this product:

This movie is one of the best examples of the war between the sexes, much like the pairing of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, or Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. Plenty of snappy repartee between the main characters, and a crisp, fast-paced script complete the joy of watching it.

      Comments about this product:

I bought this with the understanding that TCM was the sole producer of this film and I would see the TCM title intro with a short synapse. However, it is duplicated by someone else. A purple disc with no hologram barcoding near the hub tells me this is not a stamping, but a copy created with a dvd burner. Plus, it has a semitransparent logo in the bottom right corner. Honestly, it looks like a truck stop special. But it has been released since the beginning of time. It says remastered and maybe it is if just the sound has been cleaned up. The first 10 minutes of the film has resolution problems and interpolated lines become easily seen. But seems to dissappear after that. The film has a good story, but is a constant barrage of quick flashy dialogue. I grew tired of listening after 3/4 the way through. All of the characters in the film talk quick and flashy. Surely this would have been better reserved for only one or both of the main characters.

        Comments about this product:

Keep your remote in hand...you can use it to replay scene after scene because so much 'funny' is going on simultaneously.

The script (and ad-libbing) has the characters talking at the same time and/or under their breath many times during the film. Because I'm laughing at one person's remark, I had to rewind to hear the other remarks and, then, laugh at those too. Also, the remarks said are so funny that I would rewind to watch the faces and gestures of the other characters in the same scene, as I noticed they couldn't hold a 'straight' face as the main character was talking. So many times the background characters in this movie turned their heads or hid under their hats or backed out of the camera shot to try and hide their reaction to likely ad-libs and/or unscripted behavior...all of which can only be seen when you slow-motion the action with your remote. Believe me, though, it is very funny to see these stars and character actors smile or laugh because they can't stop themselves.

I've often wondered how many 'takes' must be necessary as performers bust out laughing when such a successfully funny script is written or when a totally unexpected ad-lib line is thrown in by the actor/actress that trumps what had been scripted. And the folks behind the camera must have a blast while filming such funny scenes.

The first 20 minutes of the movie can take an hour to watch if you really want to catch all the funny subtleties of Rosalind Russell, Cary Grant, Ralph Bellamy and the background actors in both the words and the actions being performed. I had a blast watching the movie this way...although I was alone and, therefore, not annoying anyone who likes to watch the movie at normal speed...even if they do miss all my fun stuff noticed and chuckled about.

I encourage the reading of the Trivia on this movie, too, so you don't miss a few of the references ad-libbed (Ralph Bellamy's actual name mentioned in an earlier scene and Cary Grant's real name, Archie Leach, mentioned by Cary toward the end of the movie.)

Have some fun ... take your time and watch this film a few times over.
