THE HOUSE ACROSS THE BAY is a fast-paced tale of blackmail, betrayal and revenge that is custom made for screen tough guy George Raft. When New York City nightclub owner Steve Larwitt becomes the target of rival racketeers, his wife Brenda is convinced he would be safer in jail. Steve's lawyer Slant persuades her to provide evidence of her husband's income tax evasion with the expectation that the court will give Steve a lenient sentence of one year. Instead, Steve is sentenced to ten years and Brenda realizes she was duped by Slant who tries to force her to become his mistress.
