    DH Lawrence Biography
Cult director Ken Russell adapts D.H. Lawrence's novel as a lush, four-part miniseries in "Lady Chatterley" (1993). When Sir Clifford Chatterley returns from WWI as a cripple unable to satisfy his wife Constance (Joely Richardson) and produce an heir, he encourages her to discreetly take a lover and will raise any child of hers as his own. The aristocratic Lady Chatterley unexpectedly starts her affair with the sensual earthy gamekeeper Mellors (Sean Bean), but she falls passionately in love with the servant - much to the disdain of Mellors' volatile, estranged wife who shows up and threatens to bring scandal upon the estate. Russell's deft hand gracefully depicts both the charged love affair against the backdrop of British class warfare.
