Beautiful, scandalous Lola Montes lives again in Max Ophals' ambitious last film, a CinemaScope and Technicolor biopic of the 19th century dancer whose love affairs were almost as famous as her art. Presented as a series of non-chronological flashbacks recounted by Lola (Martine Carol) in a seedy, post-career circus run by ringmaster Peter Ustinov, we see her life as a lush, almost epic historical melodrama. Co-starring a young Oskar Werner.
