Producer Patricia Ruanne mounted this Australian Ballet revival of Scottish choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan's 1974 Manon at the Adelaide Festival Centre in 1995. The work tells of the ill-fated 18th Century Parisian love between the gorgeous Manon andher impoverished suitor des Grieux, which turns tragic when she abandons him for the sake of wealth. This particular production features Justine Summers as Manon, Steven Heathcote as des Grieux, Nigel Burley as Lescaut, Jonathan Kelly as Monsieur G.M. and Lynette Wills as Lescaut's mistress. Jules Massenet penned the score, arranged here by Leighton Lucas; The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Noel Smith, provides musical accompaniment; Monica Parker serves as choreologist.
