"Ninotchka" (1939) stars Greta Garbo as a harsh Communist official, who is deployed to Paris for official government business. The Soviet diplomat is sent to finalize the jewelry sale of the Grand Duchess Swana (Ina Claire), to her Russian counterparts. In the City of Love, Ninotchka grows fond of Swana's lawyer and occasional lover, Leon (Melvyn Douglas), as they remain unaware of each other's identity. The two lovers must overcome blackmail, political retribution and country borders to remain together. Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress.
