    Theatrical Trailer
A coal miner's son takes up rocketry against his father's wishes in the inspirational drama "October Sky" (1999), helmed by "Captain America" director Joe Johnston. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a young boy in rural West Virginia who hears about Russia's Sputnik and teams with friends and teachers to launch his own rocket, despite the opposition of Chris Cooper as his father. The uplifting film is based on NASA engineer Homer Hickman's memoir "Rocket Boys," an anagram for "October Sky."
