A can't-miss story of lust and love, betrayal and forgiveness, "The Painted Veil" (2006) is based on the 1925 novel by W. Somerset Maugham. Edward Norton stars as Walter Fane, a physician who moves to Shanghai with his new wife, Kitty, a beautiful but vain London socialite played by Naomi Watts. Upon their arrival, Walter sets to work while Kitty begins a secret affair with a married man played by Liev Schrieber. When Walter discovers his wife's betrayal, he volunteers to travel to China to work in a remote cholera-stricken village. Kitty, upon her lover's admission that he will never leave his wife, is compelled to travel with her husband. Directed by John Curran, and featuring stunning cinematography, "The Painted Veil" is both deeply seductive and satisfying.
