Five hundred miles of certain death. Visionary Stanley Kubrick directs this powerful anti-war film, which garnered him international acclaim. Based on the book by Humphrey Cobbs and banned in France for nearly 20 years, "Paths of Glory Criterion Edition Blu-ray" (1957) tells the story of a group of shell-shocked French WWI soldiers ordered on a suicide mission, reluctantly led by commander Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas). When the commander refuses the corrupt Gen. Mireau's orders for soldiers to fire on their own ranks to keep them driving forward, the general accuses a group of scapegoats in a kangaroo court to protect his promotion. A hard look at the way war ravages men physically, psychologically, and morally.
