Play It Again: The Classic Sound of HollywoodCD
In twenty years of existence, Turner Classic Movies Network has celebrated the classic sound of Hollywood both in its recognition of the important role music plays in the movies, and in its continual programming of movies that owe much of their enduringappeal to the music that accompanies them. As well as audiences at the time knew Gable and Garbo, Bogart and Bergman, they knew the music of the composers who created that classic sound: Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Bernard Herrmann, Franz Waxman, Max Steiner, Mikls Rzsa, Dimitri Tiomkin, and a bit later Maurice Jarre, Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini, Ennio Morricone and John Williams.Presented in conjunction with Sony Masterworks, this new 2-CD collection celebrates the classic sound of Hollywood with music from the acclaimed Classic Film Scores series recorded in the early 1970s by conductor Charles Gerhardt. It includes two great suites from scores by Erich Wolfgang Korngold Of Human Bondage and The Sea Hawk, both re-edited by Gerhardt that have been unavailable for over a decade. The second CD features definitive moments from the greatest of all movie scores including Gone with the Wind, King Kong, Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, Breakfast at Tiffanys and more.Track Listing:&DISC 11.
