"Playing for Time" (1980) is a harrowing account of endurance and survival. This Emmy-award-winning television movie is based on the true story of a group of female prisoners at Auschwitz who formed an orchestra to avoid being murdered in the gas chambers. Vanessa Redgrave stars as Fania Fenelon, a Jewish cabaret singer and pianist who performs for both her Nazi captors and prisoners being herded to their deaths.
