Description
A sunny day: Doris Day copes with home, hubby and the mommy track!

Kate Mackay (Doris Day) has four boys who someday may lend their names to hurricanes. A monstrosity of a country fixer-upper that needs its lower fixed too. And a poison-pen, drama-critic hubby (David Niven) who sees plays under the worst possible circumstances - by being the audience.

Kate hags in through thick and thicker in this jovial comedy from the bestseller by playwright Jean Kerr. Day brings her trademark radiance to the goings-on and to the songs Please Don't Eat the Daises and Any Way the Wind Blows. Spouse Niven finds his hawk-like critic's eye clouded when a production of a play he wrote decades earlier may bring about his comeuppance. With Janis Paige, Spring Byington and Richard Haydn on hand for snappy comic support, Please Don't Eat the Daisies is breezy family fun.

      Comments about this product:

Doris Day is one of my favorite actresses and I'm sorry to say that I had to watch this movie four times until I was able to fully enjoy and watch it. This movie is almost two hours long and after watching an hour of this movie I'd start falling asleep! I just felt that there were too many scenes with David Niven and Janis Paige. While these were necessary to the storyline, in my personal opinion it made the movie overly long.

I did very much enjoy the scenes Doris Day had with her four boys, her dog, and when she moved into the big house in the country that she had to re-do. Her romantic scenes with David Niven were also nice, and there are some funny moments. I wish they would have let her have her hair down sometimes though... her character has it up the entire movie.

The songs Doris sings, Please Don't Eat the Daises and Any Way the Wind Blows, are very good.

Overall, this is a good movie. Not my favorite Doris Day movie but not bad either. To me, it was just too long with too many scenes not involving Doris Day when she's supposed to be the lead actress.

        Comments about this product:

Snappy dialogue, great cast (Janis Paige especially), and Ms Day in terrific form in a breezy family comedy about the lives of a Broadway theater critic and his family. She yearns for a house in the country, and gets it! I love this film. The title song and one other, performed during a rehearsal of the Hooten Holler Players, are infectious.

A great scene: Paige attempting to seduce Niven ('I like the way you look!') then giving up when she realizes he loves his wife. Watch the subtle moment when she stops midsentence to look up at the approaching waiter. And when she says, 'You're talking to Mother' , she displays the wisdom of a Broadway chorine who has seen it all.

        Lots of fun.
