Acclaimed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's humanism came into full flower in the decade following World War II. This no-frills set features five films from that period on five discs. Setsuko Hara searches for her place in pre-war Japan in "No Regrets for Our Youth" (1946). Then a young couple adjust to the post-war life in "One Wonderful Sunday" (1947). And frequent Kurosawa star Toshiro Mifune plays a painter stalked by the tabloids in "Scandal" (1950), a spurned lover contemplating murder in "The Idiot" (1951) and an elderly man haunted by nuclear paranoia in "I Live in Fear" (1955).
