George Bernard Shaw wrote the screenplay adaptation of his own beloved stage masterpiece about Professor Henry Higgins's wager to turn a low-class flower vendor into a 'proper lady' and won an Oscar for his efforts. Pygmalion, which would later be adapted once again, as the musical My Fair Lady, is one of the great Cinderella stories and a tart-tongued romantic comedy par excellence.

    Comments about this product:

This CD was sent to my daughters for St. Patrick's Day to remind them of the genius of a great Irish writer, G.B. Shaw. Many people would think him English, since the story of Pygmalion is set in London. However, Shaw is in the pantheon of the greats along with Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and James Joyce. The movie retains its pungent wit and remarkable characters due to Shaw's own hand on the screenplay. You will love Wendy H.'s Eliza because she truly uncovers her real identity. A wonderful piece of acting.
