Reactive Synthesis DVD
Partially funded through a Rollins College Student-Faculty collaboration grant, this music is the culmination of two independent study projects at Rollins College, during the completion of my undergraduate degree. The concept of this recording was to explore elements of concert music, and to effectively integrate those elements into my own jazz writing. After studying the works of Schuller, Brubeck, Gil Evans, and many other third stream writers, and studying classical theory, form and history, I wrote the three long form pieces that constitute the crux of the music on this disc. The other three pieces are strophic jazz songs that I thought would complement the more complex pieces and create a whole that I hope the listener will find interesting and worthwhile. I wish to thank Dr. Daniel Crozier, Dr. John Sinclair, and Dean Richard from Rollins College, for their invaluable support and advice. Thanks, also, to the wonderful musicians who made this project a reality: Daniel Jordan- Tenor and Soprano Sax John DePaola- Trumpet and Flugelhorn Chuck Archard- Bass Keith Wilson- Drums Chris Rottmayer- Piano.
