Rhoda (played by Valerie Harper) is the successful spin-off to the classic Mary Tyler Moore Show. Rhoda began with Rhoda Morgenstern returning to her hometown of New York City after living several years in Minneapolis. She had slimmed down, sported stylish clothes and thankfully for us she still had her sassy wit and warm personality. Soon, we would all find ourselves at her wedding . . . or so it seemed. The hour long episode of "Rhoda's Wedding" (which included Mary Tyler Moore, Ted Knight, Georgia Engel, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, Edward Asner ) airing on October 28, 1974 would achieve stellar ratings and ultimately contributed to Valerie Harper's fourth Emmy. The rest of the first season focuses on Joe and Rhoda's honeymoon, apartment hunting, and Rhoda 's work as a window dresser . She finds comfort from her sister, Brenda (Julie Kavner of The Simpsons) and is often troubled by her overbearing Jewish mother, Ida (Nancy Walker).
