The great Lon Chaney was known as "The Man of a Thousand Faces." During the silent film era, Chaney's ability to create realistic characters using makeup and body contortions propelled him to the heights of stardom. Chaney was a man of deep convictions, who wanted to bring a human face to those who were different. In this film, "Shadows" (1922) he plays Chinese laundryman Yen Sin, who is shunned by white settlers in a coastal community.
