There isn't a movie genre Mel Brooks can't turn into a farce. For "Silent Movie" (1976), Mel and a couple of his favorite players, Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise, are a trio of producers looking to make a silent movie in 1970s Hollywood. Studio exec Sid Caesar tells Mel if he can get the stars, he can make his movie. What follows is Mel's zany and extremely quiet attempt to woo such stars as Burt Reynolds, Paul Newman, James Caan, Liza Minelli and Anne Bancroft who all appear as themselves. Famous mime Marcel Marceau has the only spoken line in the film.
