This was only the third film from writer/director Preston Sturges, but it may be his finest work and one of the great films of all time. Starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake, the touching comedy follows an over educated film producer who has become wealthy making mindless entertainment for the masses, but has a deep longing to create more serious movies that earn him the respect of critics. To achieve his goals, the sheltered rich man goes on the road disguised as a penniless hobo so that he may discover the plight of the common man.
