Alan Alda wrote, directed, and stars in "Sweet Liberty" (1986), a satire about the film industry's approach to history. Alda plays a college professor whose account of the American Revolution has been turned into a script that will begin filming in his sleepy North Carolina hometown. But the screenwriter has bungled all his ideas, turning his diligently accurate portrayal of history into a teen romp, and the town is being turned upside down. Meanwhile, Michelle Pfeiffer, the film's leading lady, is so obsessed with her character that Alda finds himself falling for her.
