"Tarzan of the Apes" (1918) is a silent film that stars Elmo Lincoln, and is the first adaptation of Tarzan ever created for film. Based on the novel, The Romance of Tarzan, this silent film follows the love between Tarzan, played by Elmo Lincoln, and Jane, played by Enid Markey. After a family is marooned on a tropical island, Tarzan is adopted as an infant by an ape mother. Raised to adulthood, Tarzan becomes the king of the apes. When an expedition goes wrong and Jane is kidnapped, Tarzan must save herand finds romance.
