The Andromeda Strain (1971) DVD
From the same mind that brought us Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton's classic techno-thriller has remained richly compelling for three decades.
- The Andromeda Strain is the 1971 science fiction film, based on the novel by Michael Crichton, directed by Robert Wise.
- Directed by Oscar®-winner Robert Wise (Sound of Music, West Side Story).
- This breakthrough science fiction classic was nominated for two Oscars® and a Hugo®.
Don't let the "G" rating fool you! This is one of the tensest, most horrifying and compelling sci-fi flicks to come out of the 70s.
A mysterious, alien space probe falls to Earth in New Mexico and everyone in the area except for two people dies as their blood turns into powder. The government relocates the probe and survivors to a secure research facility and scientists struggle to understand the deadly implications of — and possible solutions to — an alien germ. Taut action combined with convincingly intricate procedural sequences builds tension throughout this brilliantly designed and paced futuristic thriller.
THE ANDRMOEDA STRAIN has it all: secret underground laboratories, deadly alien viruses and a countdown to nuclear destruction! Hot on the heels of Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and Lucas' THX 1138, this film was part of a sober new understanding of what our future might hold. Sterile, technologically advanced environments replaced the messy, swashbuckling fantasies of the 50s and 60s. Humans were shown, more often than not, as being the ultimate source of our own problems, albeit with a little help from alien entities.
This classic, yet perfectly up-to-date, science fiction film remains gripping and entertaining. Add THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN to your library today!

Comments about this product:
I think I first saw this when I was in high school. Programs like these would interest me only because they seemed a little different. This was on parr with other science fiction shows and was very believable. I would give it an above average rating.
