In Howard Hawk's hilarious "His Girl Friday" (1940), Grant is a newspaper editor who's trying to win back Rosalind Russell, his star reporter and ex-wife. Jean Arthur plays Grant's love interest in "Only Angels Have Wings" (1939), also directed by Hawks. The Academy Award-nominated "The Awful Truth" (1937) finds Grant and Irene Dunne almost divorced, but moving closer together after a series of adventures. Grant plays an escaped prisoner trying to woo Jean Arthur in "The Talk of the Town" (1942), another Oscar Best Picture nominated film.
