A disturbing metaphor for the culture clashes of the 1960s, "The Collector" (1965) is as eerily meticulous as its protagonist. The film stars Terrance Stamp as an obsessive, withdrawn young man, whose only hobby is collecting and cataloging butterflies. After winning a sweepstakes, he purchases a remote country house and collects a new kind of specimen: a young, beautiful art student, played by Samantha Eggar, whom he kidnaps. With his usual precision he tries to make her fall in love with him, with tragic results.
