This high-velocity World War II classic is a first-rate action thriller. Lee Marvin plays Major Reisman, who is tasked with putting together a team to storm a French chateau and kill the high-ranking Nazi officers stationed there. It's a suicide mission, and so Reisman recruits the nastiest assortment of criminals, thugs and murderers ever assembled on film. Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, John Cassavetes, Charles Bronson and Jim Brown star as prisoners offered pardons if they agree to take on the mission. The film culminates in a ruthless, unforgettable battle that vividly displays the horrors of war.
