Description
No Man Takes What's Mine!

"Do you want to stand alone against the whole world?" Architect Howard Roark has heard the voices of safety, convention, compromise. But Roark is a man as unyielding as the mighty structures he builds. And he will sacrifice everything - the woman he loves or the project he dynamites when others interfere with his design - to maintain his individuality in a world of lockstep conformity.

Gary Cooper portrays Roark and Patricia Neal plays the troubled beauty whose desire for him almost destroys her in this emotionally and intellectually searing film scripted by Ayn Rand from her own novel. From a granite quarry to Manhattan skyscrapers to a thrilling courtroom finale with his freedom on the line, Roark does stand alone against the whole world. And that is his most towering achievement.

      Comments about this product:

Actually, I do not why I got this film. I never understood it, half this way and half that way. It is still a puzzle to me.

It is about modern architecture like Frank Lloyd Wright versus many older classic forms. It is about one man's integrity versus a columnist conformity. It was the builder's choice, why did they go after the designer? I am in left field.

The only thing I did understand, one newspaper columnist wanted power over the people. Whatever he says; it is a go for for the public.

I did not understand Patricia Neal, she is so cold to any suitor until she sees Gary Cooper. He is not wanting her affections, but likes the nasty woman just the same. Maybe it was her treatment that got him interested.

She rebounds and marries somebody she can barely tolerate, Raymond Massey. He decides Cooper is perfect to design his honeymoon home. Somehow, he accepts the commission. Raymond and Gary form a type of friendship.

Kent Smith pleads with Gary Cooper to design the Cortland project, the first low-budget for low-income people high-rise. Kent gives his promise that the structure be built exactly to Cooper's design with handshake, if city accepts the design. While Cooper is away, Kent could not stand the pressure to change plans. It is corrupted to ugly lines! Cooper decides to blow it up, terrible vandalism! Even Patricia participates in secret. What I saw that all tenants got an "itsy bitsy tiny winy bikini" BALCONY. I saw both sides, clean lines versus needy people space for fresh air.

I understand a designer, it is his way. But, the modified structure still belongs to the owner. I understood the court scene, where Cooper pleads about one a man's ingenuity. I agree, yet the monetary loss!
I sometimes agreed with the author, Ayn Rand, other times disagreed. I never understood the author.

Maybe it was a Gary Cooper movie that I purchased it. I invite anybody to explain this story to me that I can understand and can conceive an the answer. Sorry, this story makes me defend the two sides, like the bombing.
      Help me!

              Comments about this product:

Ayn Rand was so far ahead of her time. Clint Eastwood didn't understand Coopers speech near the close but it made sense to me. Intellectual property is too often abused and infringement(s) accepted rather than protected and prohibited to the max.

Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal are amazing in this film! (Not surprising.) The tension is palpable; the characters, well-developed and true; the plot, interesting; the cinematography, amazing! A perfect story, a perfect film!

This DVD stopped in the middle and returned to the beginning. There wasn't a scratch or anything but I had to skip that frame in order to watch the rest of the movie. Disappointed.

It's easy to see & understand why Cooper & O'Neal fell in love while making this film. This is the one film where Cooper is extremely sexy. Their affair lasted many years but unfortunately, they never married.
